When God himself strips paint and rust from classic cars (it is the Lord’s work after all), he uses wire wheel attachments for angle grinders. It took me well over a month of weekends to strip and paint the chassis (which is good to go incidentally). The silver bit on the bodyshell above took me an hour and ten minutes. Pic of the chassis (and some mess) below :)

Twist knot cup. My rusty Skoda is almost rust free (although there are a great many new holes) because of extensive use of one of them. They don’t seem to wear out either, truly magical.

Yeah, wire cup style wheels are way better than regular wheels. So much faster and easier on the wrists.

Yep. This is my tool of choice, the Snap-On Crud Thug.

in combination with dry ice, it’s also really handy for stripping sound insulation when building race cars.

Nice :) unfortunately SnapOn is sometihng that my well paid (and concerned about good tools) mate in aviation has. I tend to have whatever I can pick up cheaply on eBay :)

Good tip on the dry ice for stripping sound deadening though...

Well, I’m on the “$20 a week for life” plan with Snap-On.

The dry ice really works wonders. Just break it up on the floor of the car, let it set a bit, then you can just smack the floor with a rubber mallet and the sound deadening just shatters. Vacuum it up, then wire wheel the remainder. So much better than attacking it with solvent and gumming up the wire wheel for hours.
